LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on May 3 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: 1st, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; 2nd, Nancy Farmer and Marta Clements; tied at third, David Lock and Patricia Garcia with Mary Trafton and Kathleen Burden. Winners in Flight B were Mary Trafton and Kathleen Burden.

The club also met on May 4 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners were: 1st, John Hackett and Leslie Buzzell; 2nd, Kathleen Burden and Mary Anne Trafton; 3rd, Mike and Patricia Quinn. Eastern Star

AUBURN — Pine Cone Chapter 26 Order of the Eastern Star willl meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St.

The program for the meeting is “A Long Road to Grand Chapter.” All Eastern Star members are welcome. Refreshment will be served following the meeting.

Grange meeting

DANVILLE — Danville Junction Grange will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at the hall. The program will feature Lucille Webber, who will give a talk on her trip to Austria, Germany and Italy. While there she attended the Passion Play. Refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting. All members and guests are welcome.

Spaghetti benefit

AUBURN — New Auburn Social Club is hosting a benefit spaghetti dinner at 5 p.m. Friday, May 13, to help Tim Webster battle cancer.

Personality style

AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services department at Central Maine Community College is offering Discover Your Personality Style from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, May 20. The cost is $99 and includes materials. Deadline to register is May 13.

In this workshop, participants will explore their own personality styles and see how it impacts their performance in the workplace and their relationship with others. The instructor will be Marylin Newell.

Free clothing

LEWISTON —A free clothing distribution will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, May 13, ath the Lewiston Root Cellar, 89 Birch St.

Free professional and casual clothing items and shoes of all sizes for infants, children, teens, men and women. Open to all.

Clothing donations will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Only donate what you would wear yourself.

Just Us concert

LEWISTON — The musical group “Just Us” will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 13, in the Multi-Purpose Center gym, 145 Birch St. Open to the public.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit Lewiston Senior Citizens. Tickets can be purchased in advanced for $5 each at the LSC office in the Multi-Purpose Center. Tickets will also be available at the door for $6 each. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for general admission seating. Light refreshments will be sold. Scholarship Dance

MECHANIC FALLS — The Rock-O-Dundee Riders Snowmobile Club of Oxford will be hosting their annual Scholarship Dance from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday, May 13, at the Silver Spurr Club. The music will be provided by Peter Allen and the Hurricane Mountain Boys and the dance will be held in the Silver Spurr’s regular dance hall. Tickets are $10 each. There will be a 50/50 drawing also going into the scholarship fund. The snack bar will be open and it is BYOB.

Each year the Rock-O-Dundee Riders give two $500 scholarships to graduating high school students or a matriculating college student.

Honoring pantry

NEW GLOUCESTER — On Friday, May 13, Sabbathday Lake Grange #365 will be having an open house to honor the Community Auxiliary Food Pantry of the First Congregational Church of Gray. They have been chosen as this years recipient of the Community Citizen Award.

The food pantry has been in operation for two years and serves the towns of Gray and New Gloucester, and anyone else needing assistance.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be open to the public. All visitors are welcome. The Grange will be collecting items for the pantry. Light refreshments will be served following the presentation.

The Grange hall is located in New Gloucester on Sabbathday Road, just off Route 26.

Duplicate bridge

OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met May 6. A 5 table Howell movement was enjoyed.

Finishing first in flight A were Rosemarie Goodwin (Lewiston) and Luke Merry (New Gloucester) with a 78% game. Second were Nancy Farmer (Norway) and Marta Clements (Woodstock). Third were Pat and Mike Quinn (Otisfield).

Finishing tied for first and second in flight B were Carol Curran (Bridgton) and Barbara Vanderzanden (Waterford) and Hank Sakrison (Poland) and Denny Raymond (Waterford) who also were first in flight C. Third in B were Priscilla Rooth (Brunswick) and Hazel Glazier (Norway). Second in C were Jim Krainin (Windham) and Milt McKeen (Bridgton).

AUBURN — New Auburn Social Club is hosting a benefit American chop suey dinner at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 14, to go towards the MDA Lock-Up.

May fair

AUBURN — A May fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Park Avenue Elementary gym, 161 Park Ave. Rain or shine.

Activities for all ages include a cake walk, a bounce house, games, crafts and an auction. Food will be available and fair and auction proceeds will benefit vital enrichment programs funded by the Park Avenue PTO.

The live auction will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Silent auction is from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Bean supper

AUBURN — There will be a bean and casserole supper from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the West Auburn Congregational Church on West Auburn Road. Donation, $7. Proceeds benefit Relay for Life Team Flutter Away.

Mother-son ball

LEWISTON — The M1 Chemo Commandos, a team participating in the Dempsey Challenge 2011, is sponsoring its 2nd annual Mother Son Benefit Ball from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Kora Shrine Temple, 11 Sabattus St.  Early registration strongly recommended.

More than 200 moms and their sons attended the event last year. All proceeds are donated to the Dempsey Cancer Center in Lewiston. The team is comprised of nurses and staff from M1, the oncology unit at CMMC, their family and friends.

Mother and son admission is $40; additional children are $5 each. Boutonnieres are available for $10 each.

Spaghetti supper

LISBON FALLS — The Knights of Columbus, Rev. N. J. Cournoyer Council 2358 will sponsor a spaghetti supper from 4:45 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, at the Parish Hall of Holy Trinity Church, 67 Frost Hill Ave.

The cost is $6, children ages 5-11 $4, children ages 4 and under eat free. Proceeds benefit the Flying Eagles Special Olympic Team.

Swingin’ Bears

PARIS — The Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club will hold a dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Oxford Hills Middle School, Pine Street, South Paris. All square dancers are invited.

May Faire

MONMOUTH — Friends Of Cumston Library’s annual May Faire will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Cumston Hall.

There will be a plant sale of annuals and hardy, locally-grown perennials, as well as a bake sale, book sale, quilt raffle, lobster roll lunch, hamburgers and hot dogs. DAR meeting

SABATTUS — Burnt Meadow Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, will gather for a meeting at the home of Marjorie Prince at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 14. The theme of the program is “Reminiscing with the Members of Burnt Meadow.”

Relay events

AUBURN — Several teams have annouced upcoming events to support Relay For Life of Androscoggin County.

The Zumba Teamis holding an ongoing bottle drive. Bottles can be dropped off for Relay For Life Zumba Team at MT Bottle Redemption on Lisbon Street, Lewiston. They can also be dropped off at Girl Power Fitness, 74 Westminster St., Lewiston, and The Silver Spur, 272 Lewiston St., Route 121, Mechanic Falls. LEWISTON — A memorial celebrating the 103 years of the life of Libby Goldman, who died Jan. 5, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at Montello Heights Retirement Community, 550 College St.

Friends, retired teachers and former students are invited to attend. The program includes musical selections, tributes and light refreshments.

Special service

TOPSHAM — A special worship service will be held at 10:10 a.m. Sunday, May 15, at Mid-Coast Presbyterian Church, 84 Main St. Erica and Doug Skolnekovich lead the congregation in singing songs of praise.

Doug and Erica will sing a solo and the familiar words of the 23rd Psalm will be heard.

Drugs collected

LEWISTON — Lewiston and Auburn held a very successful Spring Medicine Disposal Day on April 30 in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Take Back Initiative. Just over a half-ton, 1110 pounds, of medications were collected from area residents. Included in the medications collected were over 10,000 pills of controlled prescription medications.

In all, 409 households in Lewiston and Auburn disposed of their expired and unwanted medications.

Summer sessions

LEWISTON — Central Maine Community College will begin its annual summer session with first classes starting the week of May 16. Online registration is open and there are still openings in a number of courses.

A complete list of courses available for the summer and fall sessions can be found at www.cmcc.edu. While most of the summer courses are delivered on the Auburn campus, a number of classes are being offered at the Western Maine Center in South Paris and the CMCC/Lincoln County Healthcare Education Center in Damariscotta. Two online/hybrid courses are being offered at Mt. Blue High School in Franklin County.
