Chinese auction
PARIS — The Resistance Ministries, a nonprofit youth ministry, will have a Chinese auction “Everybody Wins” on Saturday, May 14, at the South Paris Fire Station.
All tickets must be purchased in advance. Tickets are limited to the first 30 people and are $25. No tickets will be sold at the door.
Doors open at 11 a.m. Drawing starts at noon. All ticket buyers are guaranteed to win at least eight brand new items. There will be a dollar table, grab bags and a 50/50 raffle. Food will be available for purchase.

Friends of library
WEST PARIS — The Friends of the West Paris Library will meet on Wednesday, May 11, to plan library activities during the West Paris Old Home Days celebration on June 10 and 11. The Friends will also be discussing an upcoming lecture on Haiti to be presented at the library on May 20, and the upcoming art exhibit for June. Anyone who thinks they might be interested in becoming a Friend of the Library is welcome to attend.
Science event
ORONO — The 2011 Citizen Science Symposium will be held at the University of Maine on Thursday, May 12, and Friday, May 13. The primary objective of the symposium is to share information about environmental citizen science, where volunteers assist scientists in monitoring and data collection.
The two day event will conclude with three field trips, including a vernal pool community-monitoring demonstration at the University Forests and a GET WET! (Groundwater Education Through Water Evaluation and Testing) presentation.

Variety show
HARRISON — Harrison Elementary School will hold a variety show on Friday, May 13. Students in grades K-6 will participate, as well as 4th-graders from Waterford Elementary School and teachers and staff.
Park cleaning
CANTON — Volunteers are needed to clean up flower beds and for general clean up at Heritage Park on Saturday, May 14. Participants should meet at the park at 9 a.m. and bring tools. The rain date will be May 21.

Scholarship dance
MECHANIC FALLS — The Rock-O-Dundee Riders Snowmobile Club of Oxford will be hosting their annual Scholarship Dance from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday, May 13, at the Silver Spurr Club.
The music will be provided by Peter Allen and the Hurricane Mountain Boys and the dance will be held in the Silver Spurr’s regular dance hall. Tickets are $10 each. There will be a 50/50 drawing also going into the Scholarship Fund. The snack Bar will be open and it is BYOB.
Each year the Rock-O-Dundee Riders give two $500 scholarships to graduating high school students or a matriculating college student.

PARIS — An indoor yard and craft sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at Paris Fire Dept., Western Avenue, South Paris.
Tables are available for $10. Sponsored by the Paris Fire Dept. Auxiliary. There will be a bake sale and refreshments will be available.
