DELAND, Fla.—  Keith Bilodeau  pitched eight scoreless innings as the University of Maine baseball team defeated Stetson 6-0 on Monday evening in DeLand, Fla. He struck out 10 batters in the game as the Black Bears picked up their first win of the 2011 season.

 Maine improves to 1-5 on the season, while Stetson falls to 5-1.

 Maine struck first with four runs in the top of the second inning. Tyler Patzalek  led off the inning with a single to center field. Justin Leisenheimer followed with a single down the left field line.

Rookie Matt Verrier of Norway then singled through the left side and Justin Leisenheimer moved to second. Eric White followed with a single through the left side as well to load the bases. Mike Connolly had Maine’s fifth straight single, driving home Justin Leisenheimer. Taylor Lewis, the reigning America East Player of the Week, reached on a fielder’s choice as the bases remained loaded. Colin Gay  then singled to shortstop driving in White. Joey Martin followed with a two-run single through the left side plating both Connolly and Lewis.

 Maine added a run in the top of the seventh inning. Patzalek doubled down the right field line and Fran Whitten followed with a single to shortstop, advancing Patzalek to third base. Verrier was hit-by-a-pitch to load the bases.

White then drew a base on ball, driving home Patzalek for the fifth run of the game for the Black Bears.

The Black Bears extended their lead to 6-0 with a run in the top of the ninth inning. Alex Calbick singled to left field and scored when White hit a sacrifice fly.

Patzalek had three hits for the Black Bears in the game, while Martin, Calbick, White and Connolly each had a pair. Martin and White each drove in a pair of runs of the Black Bears.

 Keith Bilodeau went eight innings and picked up his first win of the season. He allowed just four hits while striking out 10. Jonathan Balentinpitched a scoreless ninth for the Black Bears to preserve the shutout.

 Will Dorsey got the start on the mound for the Hatters and went 1.2 innings. He suffers the loss as he allowed four runs on eight hits. He was one of six pitchers in the game for Stetson.
