AUBURN — A public review of plans to extend passenger rail service from Portland through Auburn and Bethel will wait another month.
Transportation officials were scheduled to host meetings Wednesday in Bethel and Auburn to review their recommendation for passenger rail — Amtrak or intercity service — that could continue to Montreal.
“We just have not had enough time to review all of the numbers,” Joan Walton, regional transportation planner for the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments, said. “We had some numbers come in late and we need some more time to go over them and make sure we have confidence in them.”
The study looks at three options for passenger service through L-A: rail service between Portland and L-A; rail service between L-A and Montreal, through Bethel; and bus service between Portland and L-A.
Walton said the new information concerns ridership forecasts for a potential Portland to Montreal line, passing through Auburn and Bethel.
The meetings will be rescheduled for March 16 in both Auburn and Bethel, although exact times and locations are still being discussed.
