Sportsman’s Show set
AUGUSTA – The 23rd annual Sportsman’s Show is scheduled for March 28-30 at the Augusta Civic Center.
The presentation is a joint venture of the Maine Sportsman, a magazine, and the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine.
Art, woodcarving and photography contests will be held. There are five classes of woodcarving: Youth, Novice (entry fee $5), Intermediate ($6), Open ($7), and Master ($10). The contest has 3 major categories: working decoys, miniatures and natural finish. Entries may be delivered to the show management at the Civic Center on Friday, March 28 from 9-11 a.m. Each piece will be numbered and placed on display. All entries must be picked up after the show closes on Sunday, March 30 at 5 p.m.
There will be numerous displays, including deer antlers, seminars, and programs for children. Brody, a 1,200-pound live Kodiak grizzly bear, will be on hand.
Admission for adults is $6 Friday and Sunday, and $7 Saturday, and for children 5-12, $4.
Skiers perform well
MT. WASHINGTON VALLEY, N.H. – Three Maine skiers earned high finishes at the 30th annual Red Parka Ski Challenge held recently at Attitash Bear Peak.
More than 122 skiers gathered for one of the largest community competitions in the Mt. Washington Valley.
David Bell of Auburn took top honors in the Veteran’s Division.
In the Women’s Division, Callie Phillips of Bethel, finished second, and Tracy Beckerman of Raymond, third.
